I wanted to send one of my amps to my son in Japan and wanted to know if there will be a problem with the AC supply. He has access to a voltage step up device but not knowing if the power transformer on my amp is 50HZ compatible i wonder if there would be any problems. Thank you for kind responses. cheers, Dak

Unless it's marked or documented otherwise, the power transformer is likely not suited for 50Hz. I'm not saying it won't work. But it will definitely run hotter and if it isn't designed for that, it likely will fail eventually. 50Hz transformers have more iron in them. If the situation were reversed (50Hz transformer running on 60Hz), there would be no problem

Check the schematic or power transformer, itself -- to see if it designed for 50/60Hz AC supply. You cannot run a 60Hz only tranny on a 50 Hz AC source.

A 50/60Hz designed tranny can run on both.

A long article on the subject. The second paragraph above the photo of the transformer describes your situation.
