I've been listening to these for about a month. Good sound. PP842s, fixed bias, Arthur Loesch front end, Acrosound TO 290 (12k) outputs. All assembled on Heathkit W4-AMs. A lot of time, effort, and problem solving went into building these, a few curses too.

 Very interesting. What prompted you to use that particular tube?

Reasons why.

I have several 842s, I ain't never seen or heard pp842s before, I like the sound of the 10 (close relative), a general desire to make something unusual, my parts shelf is tooo crowded, my parts shelf is way way way too crowded, I own too many amps and I thunked 1 more pair of amps might help things a bit. It all seems a bit silly but they do offer a different perspective on the music.

 Wow...a very rare tube. I resisted the urge to run the low-mu 10( -ish )tube because I couldn't find enough of them for a pair of amps. Within reasonable-to-me budget that is.

What did you do for a front end?

The front end is a split differential 6SN7, DC coupled to another 6SN7 long tailed pair. It's Arthur Loesches' design published in the first year of "Sound Practices". I purchased the chassis with front end intact from his estate, the outputs were my own doing. In playing with 10s and 842s, I am leaning toward the 10s. The 842s tend to be very restrained in characteristic, with much inner detail. The 10s are livelier sounding, and detailed. The 842 have better low bass and the 10s have better midbass.
