has anyone tried silk gridchoke for pp phasesplitter?

Both my line stage and power amps (fully balanced differential) use Lundahl input transformers. In both instances the balanced input connection is made on the transformers secondary. In essence using the transformer's secondary as a center tapped grid choke. In that context a CT grid choke works well. I am not sure how a CT grid choke could be used to effect phase splitting. Perhaps someone out there could explain how this would work. I'd be interested to learn.

dave slagle Manufacturer Posts: 5430 Location: NYC Joined: April 27, 2001	A CT grid choke can be wired as a 1:1 inverting transformer and if you use the "primary" of this transformer as a grid choke you get an inverted signal from the secondary. Both Jack at EP and Mike at MQ offer devices specifically for this situation. dave

amnesiac Audiophile Posts: 717 Joined: August 21, 2002	your taking the magnetics out of the drive. it is the sound of a cap coupled grid choke loaded stage verses a transformer coupled stage. I was hoping to get better bandwidth and more direct sound. The silk is designed for such use I don't want to be the first guy here to try it.

dave slagle Manufacturer Posts: 5430 Location: NYC Joined: April 27, 2001	I can say that a simple split bobbin choke used as an inverting IT has horrible behavior. I think Mike did some additional interleaving on the EXO-173 to come up with the 173pps for this specific use. dave
