Hey Jim I am hoping you can settle a question for me regarding the 5A/157D tube. Several sites on the internet say it is equivalent to the EF37A, but Duncan's site says it is not. I tried a nos pair in my 91A clone and they do not work like the EF37A's. The gain is way higher but there is hum and some crackling unless I lay a finger on the grid wire of one of them. Then the volume drops in both of them and the noise and hum clear up. No such problem when I use EF37A's. Have you had any experience with the 5A/157D? If so what have you found? Thanks! |
