Anyone have any experience with the Cree rectifiers at the link below? I think it would be pretty easy to cut a small PCB for these. I just don't know how reliable they are.

EDIT: The link is Vishay, not Cree. Sorry for the confusion. I was looking at Cree at the same time.

No experience with those surface mount diodes but I've used these 1200V TO-220 Cree Schottky diodes in my 833C amp to rectify the 2.5kV supply. 5 in series on each leg with a cap across each has worked like a charm for more than a year now.

Ditto for the 1200V part,..., posted on February 27, 2015 at 13:28:29

in both of my monoblock amplifiers, where B+ = 400V.

A lifetime supply of 1Kv Schottkys for $150.

I have never had a failure with their through-hole parts.

Surface mount parts are tricky and even tho the price is tempting,go the other route of the conventional leaded parts.

Past posts suggested that Schottkys in series was not recommended but I see you are using cap bypasses. What value are you using?

I have series connected pairs of 1200PIV HEXFREDs in a hybrid bridge. I use 4.7M high voltage flame proof resistors across the diodes to equalize the voltage across them. Each pair is has a .01uF 1600V polypropylene across it. The equalizing resistors work. Haven't had a failure since replacing single rectifiers with series connected pairs.

It's not really a Schottky., posted on February 27, 2015 at 21:46:58

Mouser has a lot of errors in their database, and this is obviously one of them. The specs are the same as the 1N400x series of leaded silicon diodes. Download the data sheet and search for the word schottky - it's not there anywhere.

BTW this came up a few months ago, IIRC.

You're right, they're not Schottky :(, posted on February 27, 2015 at 22:58:35

Are these the same diodes we discussed some time back? I remember the thread, but I thought they were something else. Anyway, I went to the Vishay site, and these are listed in the "Fast Recovery" category, not as Schottky. Like you say, it's a Mouser error. Guess I need to keep looking...

I understand the need for the five in series for each leg of the bridge but why the caps?

The caps help equalize the voltage across the stack, and also help to snub resonant spikes and shunt noise. I use .01uF, 1600V film caps.

Recommended by the Valve Wizard, see link.

.01uF caps. Haven't had any issues in over one year of heavy use.

Amazing. Here's my humble offering (picture), posted on March 1, 2015 at 07:09:06

Cree schottky diode bridge for monoblock amplifiers (I made two).
