Hi there,
The GE product data for 6DK3 does not specify mounting orientation.
As per attached photo I've mounted these diodes in 'H plane' & having the odd failure after 6 months use. The PSU is dual mono FWCT using a C/L/C filter, the current demands are well within limits the load is 150ma / 500V & the input cap is 1.5uF

The faulty diode when checked out of cct appear OK on DVM no obvious shorts or open cct's. When failure occurs it's typically after in rush when the diode is hot sometimes but not always the mains fuse 1.6A s/b will blow with gusto but not always & the replacements diode will work fine. The heater voltage is spot on 6.3V & the filter bleeder resistors are well de-rated.

Being a rectifier ie 'GRIDLESS' I would have thought 'H plane mounting' would have been OK any thoughts ?

Cheers Johno

"The GE product data for 6DK3 does not specify mounting orientation."

That's not exactly right. It specifies "any." I'm not familiar with this tube. What is pin 1 normally connected to? Are you experiencing repeated failures?

Hi mate,
yep repeated failures but no infant mortality typically 6 months usage so maybe something wrong my end, looking for feedback on this valve regarding reliability.

According to GE data, Pin 1 - heater insulation coil, Pin 4 & 5 - heaters, Pin 2 & 7 - plate, Ext cap - Kathode.

I have nothing connected / tied to pin 1.

Description
The 6DK3 (1.8A) very similar to a 6DL3(2.3A)except lower heater current. Originally used in colour TV - pulsed horizontal deflection cct.
• 6DK3/6DL3 Half-Wave Vacuum Rectifier
• Pulsed Rectifier, Damper High Voltage
• Heater: 6.3 V, 1.8 A
• Plate: 6,500 Vmax, 1.200 mAmax - Peak
• Plate: 9.0 Wmax - Damper Rectifier
• Base: 9-pin + Cap, all glass
