Almost finished with the power supply for my PSE KT88 stereo amp and am wondering what amount of capacitance I should use for the CLCLC PS. The power supply will use a pair of 5AR4 which are then connected to an 80uf x 550v ASC film cap. Then to a 4H x 400ma x 28 DCR inductor, then I can go with 160uf or 100uf film cap to a 5H x 300ma x 29DCR inductor then to either 100uf or 200uf film caps. The power supply is on a separate chassis so I plan to use it with other amps in the future. I have OPT from a HK citation2 and also some DYNACO A430. So, I want this PS to cope with both SE and PP amp designs. thank you for your suggestions, Dak

You are going way overboard here.
I am assuming about 200mA draw.
80uf film cap - 5H - 300uf film cap
Will give you everything you want.
16mV ripple (Quiet)
No oscillation or overshoot
Fairly quick recovery (.1sec)

Exactly what I was aiming for. A power supply that would not compromise any of the upstream devices or any future amp that I decide to build, within the voltage range. thank you for checking. best regards, Dak

I'd see if that 4h choke will hold up to choke input duty, then run the 100uf-200uf caps.

something like 4h, 200uf, 5h, 200uf

Yeah, I wish I could run choke input but my transformer's B+ is just barely adequate for a capacitor input. With cap input I will be getting around 420 maybe 430vdc. thank you for your input. cheers, Dak

The first cap should be no more than 20uf. This will extend the life of the rectifier.
