I have a Sony deck that was given to me a few years ago. I have it in my studio system where it is my go to for listening. I haven't recorded with it. I really like this deck yet I get the impression that Sony equipment is not particularly valued. Can you help me with this issue?

What model do you have? Sony made some simple, really inexpensive decks and some expensive, full-feature ones. In general, they all sound pretty good. Like all reel-to-reel equipment, it depends on the model and condition.
