The Morrison ELAD PreAmp

The March issue of the Audio Critic gives the Morrison Line Stage PreAmp an amazing review and says that it produced the best measurements Peter Aczel has ever seen in any preamp including the Conrad Johnson ART unit for 15K. I purchased a unit and want to tell everyone that this is truly a breakthrough product. For $600.00 U.S. (plus shipping) it absolutely destroyed my old preamp which retailed for almost four times more! I have since compared it to other expensive units and Morrison's ELAD sounds significantly better. He uses only the best parts-Alp volume contols, a power supply that is the heaviest I have ever seen; It is ruthlessly revealing and totally accurate. It will bring out details in your CD's you have never heard. Buy the Audio Critic and read the review or better yet, phone the Morrison himself -(416) 362-0523. Proudly Canadian.

Inexpensive and accurate!! And the builder believes wires is wires and accuracy to the source recreates the original acoustic event.

However, that does not mean that the preamp isn't great sounding. Like the objectivists might say, it is obvious that you are impressed with the specs and reviews, expected it to sound great. And it may well be that it does - Morrison does a lot of things right in his design, especially by using a refined, separate, substantial power supply.

Morrison's ranting on his web site turned me off a bit, but he's got in interesting philosophy. I will be interested in the response of other more technical regulars regarding his design, but if it continues to please your ears, you've gotten a great bargain and good sound.

(Just curious, why did you post this on the speaker forum??)

Enjoy the Music,

Dave VH

Does anyone else think the Audio Critic ranks right down there with single ply toilet paper?

I heard Morrison speakers years ago when they were first introduced. In fact I heard them at 3 different stores over the course of a year. In each case they were the most expensive and worse sounding speakers I had ever heard. They struck me as harsh, metallic and instantly fatiguing. That impression has stuck for a long time. If measurements were all that mattered we could get by watching an oscilliscope!

Was it reviewed in a REAL audio mag, by anyone who could hear?
