Hi,

That's one of Asakura-san's auctions. That is the real deal. One of the best Japanese iron at their price points. I have their MC step ups - will be heirloom items IMO. Don Garber of Fi, if I'm not mistaken uses Hashimoto too as higher level options in his products. I hope that helps.

I have a pair of 5K PP 30W in my K&K differential stage output board.

Excellent performance, well worth the price.

Under $500. That's nothing for a very good OPT.

I also have the K&K upgrade st-70 as well (triode mode). How would you compare Hashimoto to the original Dynaco transformers on this amp?

regards,
Herman

Mine is also wired triode mode.
It is a completely bottom's up scratch build, wanted a larger chassis, meter's, etc. I have never owned an ST-70 with original Dynaco A470 transformers, so I really cannot offer a comparison.

I built a couple of ST-70 "clones (full pentode EL34 35WPC mode)" in the 90's using the Welborne Labs upgrade board and MQ A470 iron when Mike L was still making them. I recall they were not as detailed as Kevin's design, but then, different driver topology, etc.

Interesting thing that I find with my K&K upgraded board (stock Dynaco transformers) is that the amp sounds a bit soft and smooths out the attack of every note. It's very polite but very detailed and balanced. Just wondering of it's the driver board or the transformers (power or output).
That is why I asked about the Hashimoto....

Kevin's board topology is so different then anything else out there I think it would be hard to say without comparing the two side by side .... Bring it to Texas and I'll buy the burritos and cerveza ......
