Do any of you know of a tech in London, preferably in the general direction of the Arsenal stadium? I think my son has a bad power supply cap in his AN (UK) Meishu Silver (big pop in speakers, but still works). The amp is quite old >10 years, I'd say. I was the second owner for 2009-12.

Could be a power supply cap, but when electrolytic caps fail, they usually fail catastrophically. Could be a faulty coupling cap, arching rectifier, arching power transformer, bad tube, bad tube socket, bad solder joint, bad resistor, bad anything.
Intermittent faults are a bear. If he can afford a 5,000 pound amp, he can drive the 62 miles to Worthing (or to his dealer) Replacing the Blackgates will be pricy, you really want to make sure they are bad.
