The attachment refers to design and implementation flaws of an un-named 300B amp. J&K Audio Design is an Asian transformer builder (primarily).

Read for yourself. I have seen a number of such comments, but this is the first one i have documented.

Of course, J&K Audio could be wrong!

None of the objections are necessarily "flaws" IMHO - depending in the implementation. Devil in the details and all that.

IMO, This statement destroys all credibility of this particular vendor.

"Upon opening the chassis, it turned out to be a nightmare! At the end, as the design was too bad, owner preferred to just repair the amplifier and sell it. Original funds will be used to build a brand new J&K 300B SET instead (Like!)."

It is more a "data point" to not do business with J&K, based on ethical and credibility concerns, than a observation on Chinese SET builds.

Cheers,
Geary

It would've been nice for the post to include frequency response and distortion at rated power at various frequencies.

A lot of what's in there is opinion. I'd rather have DC on my driver tubes as a manufacturer because you can regulate that and not worry about changes in line voltage.

DC on the 300B filaments is also helpful, if you have 110dB horns, AC just isn't going to cut it.

It looks like the big flaw here is the choice of capacitor for the low voltage supplies.

Thanks for that observation, posted on May 16, 2014 at 00:49:25

When I saw them on the WWW, I was initially, but cautiously, interested in having them build me some SE OPTs. (I just posted on the DIY board, here). This comment of yours makes me more cautious (and so do their low prices).
