Tried Cabasse Farella (distorts at high levels), Spica (no go), Definitive Tech(ditto), Triangle(eek!), ProAc Studio 125(erhg)...

Room size is 12 by 10. I think big multi way horns or Lowthers are out. What would you use?

The LaScala's are 2' x 2' x (3' high). The sound is very close to the big Klipschorns (corner horns), but they are more flexible in placement and not so high. They are finished in basic black stain on plywood. (No MDF, to which I'm allergic, but solid as a rock.) The Belle Klipsch is a bit shallower and wider, and has lovely veneer over plywood. These were designed for use with low power SET amps (5W/ch 2A3 amps are ideal).

I use La Scalas (1979) driven by small 300B monoblocks with great results. La Scala crossovers can be modified to yield even better sound.

The thing is the local Klipsch guys only order the Heritage series
on pre paid basis. For my size room (10'x12') which model-HeresyII
or La Scala- would you really recommend?

I d love to hear about mods even if I am as handy with a soldering iron like Keanu Reeves is a truly emotive deep actor (sorry if you like Keanu...eek)

Sound unheard, but reputable beyond belief, yeah, I ll try Klipsch, I really would. I have a good feeling about them.

Johann,

10x12 room= Heresy check out e-bay for used ones. You can't go wrong.

Regards,

Les

P.S. I have had La Scalas for twenty years. Heresy's B4 that.

I suggested Heresys to you in another append primarily because of the room size you mentioned. My belief was that with Heresys you might be able to move them out from the wall a bit and create a little depth of image. My office is about 12 x 10 and I have my Cornwalls in them now. I have them in the corners of the long wall. They play so well at low volumes I can keep the volume low and they don't overpower the room. Any of the Heritage series should work well (except for the K-horns, they're just too big for that size room), you just need to determine what factors are important to you and then go for it. If you can live with LaScala's large dimensions, then by all means go for them. If not, then you might want to try and find some used Cornwalls or new or used Heresys. The Heresy is an excellent little speaker, I had a pair myself until I stumbled upon a mint pair of Series I walnut Cornwalls. Good luck!

What is the reasonable price for a pair of used Heresy II? nt., posted on April 30, 2000 at 19:14:16

Thanks!
Btw, is the HeresyII a bi-wirable speaker? Looking at a *future* option of adding a "super-tweeter" and bypassing the Klipsch's own tweeter...

Johann,

You won't need a supertweeter, not positive about biwiring. They are available used on e-bay for $350-$450. You can put better caps an inductors in the crossover and mount the xover externally. Big improvement. I did this with La Scalas, another Inmate has done it with Heresy.Klipsh BB www.klipsch.com lots os tweaks and info.

Just running the amp in with Acoustic Research 85dB mini monitors, the discontinued AR M1 at the moment.

Was awaiting the home trial of a certain local company's (Singapore)
speakers, but now it might not be possible. There is just something about seeing and talking to a manufacturer every day at his shop...makes you want to give his design a shot even if you did hear weird things like cabinet rattles and bass overhangs til tomorrow...(who knows, it could ve been the room, etc)

I hear Kochel has a small version of their fantastic three way horns
that maybe MIGHT fit in a 12'x10' room. My budget might not handle them at this point, but Kochel is one of my personal absolute favorite
things in this maddening pursuit :)

The super tweeter idea was put into my head cos of the Kochel horns
I heard in the local Cary showroom a few years back. They have such amazingly sweet and life like sheen and timbre from the mids on to highs I ve not heard before. And I heard most of the available "High End" amp and speaker combos, those represented by TAS and Stereophile anyway.

If I had the $ and the space, my absolute First Choice Spker would be Kochel...driven by an SET most definitely. My dream system is out of reach for me and most ppl.... AN Kegon, Kochels....

I hear Kondo left AN, so bye bye Kegon at any rate. Oh well...

Either that or paper driver speakers (NHT? 87 dB only *sigh*).

I would use Seck Audio Imperial speakers.
