This guy is endlessly melodically inventive. Has clever lyrics and plays good guitar. I have several of his cds with not a weak one among them. You ave to order them from his website. Reasonable prices, good sound and service. Start with "Happy Birthday, Sabo".

Alex is that rare beast-a great singer/songwriter who is also a good musician and sidemen. His many projects include The Tin Men (resonator guitar, sousaphone, washboard,) Royal Fingerbowl (an early trio project of guitar, stand-up bass, and drums that reconvenes once or twice a year,) The Alex McMurray Quartet (many of the same musicians from his other groups, but more rocknroll oriented,) The Valparaiso Men's Chorus (obscene sea shanties,) and solo performances. His collaborative groups include 007 (rocksteady with members of G. Love and Special Sauce, the Iguanas, and the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars,) Jackals (similar but with a more expanded repertoire and different drummer,) and the Write Brothers (a collection of singer/songwriters.) As a sideman he has played everything from klezmer to reggae to gospel to trad. jazz/hokum/cabaret. And he produces the annual Chaz Fest, to boot. In other words, he is an exemplary New Orleans musician!
