Maybe 70% of my email correspondents wish to remain anonymous/unidentified. But 30% are glory hogs, and constantly leap over each other, for me to cite or quote them.

One of my audio friends writes, "Don't pause. Don't stop. Keep going with 1991."

Perhaps sensing a change in the musical weather, the supergroup Contraband formed in 1991. It consisted of:

Drums: Bobby Blotzer, Ratt
Guitar: Michael Schenker, MSG
Vocals: Richard Black, Shark Island
Bass: Share Pedersen, Vixen
Guitar: Tracii Guns, L.A. Guns

Sometimes, we audiophiles like to put down the critical pen, and just rock out. And many times, we want something different, not the usual retreads on classic rock radio. That's when we whip out alternates, such as Contraband's cover of Mott The Hoople's "All The Way From Memphis."

When I returned to UC Santa Cruz for the Fall '91 quarter, I did the short walk from Crown College to the campus radio station, KZSC. Now, to cater to the hordes of wannabe hippies, KZSC had to play alt-rock. It didn't have any use for other genres of music. So when music labels sent promo CDs of those "other" genres, KZSC turned around, and sold them. I believe I spent $2 on the CD single of Contraband's "All The Way From Memphis," which is now in the hands of one of you Inmates.

Enjoy,
