My generation's parents included the real hippies Many AA Inmates were (and still are!) true hippies. As for my generation? Well, when we were in college, 25 years ago, we were Wannabe Hippies: fake, ersatz, clueless, phony, cheap imitation.

To make matters worse, I happened to go to UC Santa Cruz, where the annoying wannabe hippies made the real hippies of the 60s (when UCSC opened) cringe, or roll over in their graves.

1991 kicked off with Cathy Dennis' cover of Wish/Fonda Rae's "Touch Me (All Night Long)." The Dennis version was very popular in urban areas. However, UCSC was sylvan, so the wannabe hippies detested the modern, dance-able, cosmopolitan "Touch Me (All Night Long)."

Personally, I didn't mind Dennis' version. In fact, in the first half of the 90s, I would play it for audiophiles.

As a solo performer, Dennis experienced the kiss of death, appearing on Beverly Hills, 90210. Her performing career came to a screeching halt, but she'd then succeed as a songwriter.

Hey, let's not forget: 1991 kicked off with, among others, the Divinyls' "I Touch Myself." Interestingly, it was a collaboration with the songwriting team of Steinberg & Kelly, who usually worked exclusively as a duo.

Moreover, I happened to be living in college dorms then. This song struck a chord with the coeds, many of whom hadn't heard this topic since Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop." But now these girls were in college, not middle school. Use your imagination.

Another sexually-charged song- Lummy.
