Late in the Spring 1986 semester, I heard, and loved, Icehouse's "No Promises." Sounding like their version of David Bowie & Pat Metheny's "This Is Not America," it was, thought I, destined to become a hit. But then, I kept waiting and waiting for it to come on the radio, and it never did!

The next school year, one of my classmates had Icehouse's album, Measure For Measure," on cassette. I did not particularly care for the album, did not feel like paying full-price for it. Yet, we could not find "No Promises" as a single, either.

But anyway, whether you are DJing for regular people, or for audiophiles, they all like "No Promises." And since not much is known about this long-lost gem (30 years old!), you get to explain :-)

Good point re Bowie. I first saw them when they were called Flowers, and did a several excellent Bowie covers. They were a great cover band- it was a suprise when they changed their name and became very big. They were pretty good live, without being brilliant performers, in those days (82-3 probably)

My favorite Bowie cover.
