With the first snow of the season falling here on the North Coast, I've been sorting through a stack of CDs from the local library. One I pulled from the shelf was Pentangle - People on the Highway. I'd never heard them before and now that I have I can say what a treat. I had no idea who Bert Jansch was either and I always passed on his records I found on my scrounging. I'll definitely look for more Pentangle and I will be sampling the next Bert Jansch I find.

Another disc I hadn't heard before was the Ravi Shankar collaboration with Phillip Glass - Passages. Wow. How'd I miss that one?

Not only are all the musicians at the top of their game, but the material is just amazing and stunning and immersive. Plus the sound quality is flat out stellar. Start with Light Flight, an anthology, and from there choose the songs you like the best and then get whatever album they were on originally.
Jansch played a different style than John Renbourn but those two styles played off each other in a purely magical way...
And Jackie's vocals, my oh my...
We lost Johm this past March and Bert in 2011.
BTW, all their albums have been remastered with extra tracks, a bonanza.

They started me on a path that I still follow. Great picture of Jackie, BTW.

Good Sam, you have a great journey ahead of you...Next I suggest Steeleye Span, especially the first 2 or maybe 3 albums with both Maddy Prior AND Gay Woods singing together.
Or if to dare, jump ahead to the album called TIME when Gay rejoins an d the child ballads are back in full glory....amazing music, amazing talents..

Thanks for the additional recommendations. I have two Steeleye Span in the collection - Now We Are Six and All Around My Hat - I enjoy both, but I need to stretch back to their earlier material. Lots of good listening ahead!
