I recently bought a Applause 12 string guitar, model AA15. After I decided to put on a strap, I realized the top button is on the wrong side, it is crossing over the part of the neck that meets with the body.

After this, I found a picture of another AA-15, and it's the same, so it must have been done on purpose.

Anyone have any idea why?

I can't remember the specifics, but it has to do with strength.
The angle vs. woodgrain vs. pressure vs .........
Lots of acoustics are arranged that way.

It's where Ovation placed the strap holder before cutaways., posted on July 1, 2015 at 07:18:10
A little better balance with these guitars. How do you like the tone?

The tone is great, and I believe the reinforced fiberglass bowl will be better at resisting warp. Now, as far as the wood front, the bridge is held in place with three screws, and I'm assuming wood glue.

Hitware, remember the "bowl" is fiberglass, not wood, so I'm still confused on the placement. This is the only guitar that I've ever seen with the button in that position. It puts the guitar out of balance, and looks to me like it should have been there for a left-handed guitar.

Are you certain it's not a left hand model? Are the bridge reliefs for low E deeper.
If it's the opposite, it was set up for right hand playing.
Not a huge deal, but that could be the issue? Just a guess

With the button on that side, if the strap (or guitar)is pulled,
the pressure is diagonal to the screw rather tending to pull it out.
As I say many guitars are done that way.

Hi dirty vinyl,

Yeah, everything is setup for a right-handed guitar. The nut is the first clue, also the pickguard. I guess the factory tried the button both ways, and it works better where it is.

and, I've never seen the button in that position (until now.)

Better balance for standing, on these guitars.
