Clapton is just about the top of the heap for me... so to say the least, I am a huge fan. Pre '80 I pretty much like every phase he went through: Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie, Derick and The Dominoes, Rasta and the "Tulsa Years". Not much for me in the '80's and '90's- which seems to be a pattern for most bands that happened to stay together during that period but after 2000 he started to putting out some interesting projects that got my attention again.

So... my all time favorite Clapton lp is:

"Derick and The Dominos Live at the Filmore". You just don't hear Clapton do long runs of improvised playing that often. That is just not his thing. But on this album, he has one long inspired run after another. He plays the blues, jazz, psychedelic rock, wha wha and everything in between... With one beautiful face melter after another. I never tire of this album and still listen to it often.

If anyone can point me to similar live shows during this period, I would be grateful. And if you can find a show with Duanne, then I will send you a free cookie in the mail. I think the live show w DA is urban legend though, but I hope I'm wrong.

indeed, my favorite too, however the D&B stuff is not trailing behind by very much at all...

I've been listening to this chestnut for as long as I can remember. Originally had it on LP but never got around to the CD until the MoFi remaster which I snapped up. It's from the same Oct 70 Fillmore East shows and shares a bunch of the same tracks as the Live Fillmore release.

I recall when the Live Fillmore project was announced I was hoping it would be a whole show or at least a significant expansion of In Concert. When I saw that the differences were negligable I passed.

I'm still hoping they decide to do some sort of box set release from those Fillmore shows. I agree that it may be pinnacle Clapton.

The Derek and The Dominoes In Concert as a DVD-A upmixed to 5.1 using the SBU process. I have no idea of the sound quality, but the SBU upmixes generally receive very high marks. Downloading it right now, will report back later tonight after it's tucked safely away on me hard drive...
