Never heard of him before. Ordered The Raven That Refused To Sing. If I like it, what else should I get? (I prefer more crunchy guitar than quiet atmospheric stuff.)

you're probably better going with the later Porcupine Tree recordings like "Nil Recurring", "The Incident" and "Fear of a Blank Planet". As you work your way back through their catalogue you get nearer to a Pink Floyd type of sound.

He's also the driving force behind Blackfield, Insurgentes, is linked to Opeth, who he produces I think and his solo work.

With Steven Wilson you'll get quality all the way. He's a top geezer.

And probably Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun. If you enjoy live recordings, they have a few that are absolutely stellar: the 2 XM Studios discs and the Fillmore West soundboard shows. The Waszawa (Warsaw) concert CD is also well worth having.

In Absentia, Stupid Dream, and Lightbulb Sun are all available as 2 ch. and 5.1 ch. DVD-A discs and they sound extremely good.

If you want any more recommendations, contact me offlist, I have a very large PTree collection...

Don't forget No-Man with Tim Bowness. Flowermouth has Robert Fripp and a few other luminaries. Most are excellent. More laid back side.

Steven has been doing the remasters/mixes for Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, XTC, ELP... Guy's got an ear.

The brightest light among his peers. And I can tell you that Porcupine Tree's sound man for concert gigs is about the best in the business. The sound he was able to achieve at The State Theater in Falls Church, VA was *astonishing*, very tough venue indeed...
