When I read about the release late last year I was excited as I have always enjoyed the music but not the sound. I know some of the masters were poorly done but a few were good but I wonder about the final results for CD's.

I doubt it can be fixed in the mix...

I enjoy the music and sometimes they can work wonders, just hoping.

M. Fremer reviewed the vinyl on analog planet and seemed to find some improvement. Perhaps the CD's were improved as well. We know these were not audiophile grade recordings, but a step up is a step up.

Very baffling really.

Here is the Boss with coin behind him and I remember an article in Stereophile where he was in Sears Sound where the owner was old school and had tube mics, old analog stuff brought up to date, prime studio, etc. For the life of me I cannot understand why Springsteen's stuff would not be wonderfully produced and have to die for sonics.

I have his stuff on the original analog releases, original cd releases and have to say his stuff is more of a love of the music type thing rather than reveling in the production.

He needs to get Bernie Grundman to record and produce him I guess.

Do we need to be "reveling in the production" to be true audiophiles?

No of course not but I admit that when the drum hits a certain way or Neil sounds like he is playing the acoustic guitar in the room or the cymbals clash and space out in the air that it sends a shiver down the spine and please sign me up. Never tire of it. . I will gladly pay for analogue productions, mofi's, uhqr's, and extra for the sacd. Hell I have the money spent to call myself a phile and have the Sheffields, Telarcs, reel to reel's, cellar with gear and cables to prove it all night.

Find it does not always have to be a 30-40 dollar production. I spun the plain vanilla vinyl of Jenny Lewis Voyager the other night and it was fantastic: sheen, shimmer, immediacy, AND bass unraveling through the system and what a gas to listen to. Have no idea how it was made, pro-tools, whatever, Hell I do not think it is even 180g. Whatever, but if Bruce's stuff could sound like THAT.

Still love and listen to the Bruce man no problem but his studio stuff needs some HELP!!!!!!!!

Yes, the new box set sounds wonderful. Better dynamics and separation of instruments. Bass is well defined.

The original CDs sound low-fi in comparison (I wonder if both Columbia & BS wanted those early albums/cds to sound that way)?

John-

there is a better thread over at Audiogon which describes this boxset in better detail. If you read the SH Forums there exists a thread as well.

Overall, this has been a long time coming for BS fans!

I have never participated on Audiogon. I will look into it. What section would it be on?

Look under the "Music" link. The nice thing about A'gon is that you can peruse the forum threads w/o having an account.

Definitely better than 16/44 rip from older CD. Less mud, more alive. Still mediocre sonics overall.

too bad. I was hoping those download, as I was looking at them yesterday, really pulled something from the remastering.
