Fetched both of these Grateful Dead classics from HD Tracks in 24/96 and run it thru my music software at 32/192. I have heard these 2 records in every format known to man or woman. I have stood 4 feet from them in front of the stage, been on the stage with them, heard rehearsals, sound checks and Garcia in my front room playing thru Altec A-7 speakers.
All that aside from the live stuff is now rendered as not worth jack shit.
After a brief conversation with David Lemieux, their producer, he said that all the originals were not only run up to 24/192 but they were remixed somewhat and remastered as well. The vocals are true the sound amazing.
I imagine the 2.5TB left on my 6TB HDs will not last long...
EDIT....DL also said the releases will never sound better, that this was the end of the journey...

Are you talking about the 2012 releases? Just want to make sure I have the "end of the journey" versions.

DL said the 192 is the remaster that is the latest and greatest...

David Lemiuex, Grateful Dead Archivist on DVD-A versions and Remastered versions:
The newly re-mastered versions of all of the Grateful Dead's studio albums were all produced from the original analog master tapes in 2013, using the original album mixes. Unlike the recent HD Tracks releases of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty in 2012, which were taken from the 2001 Mickey Hart-produced remixes of those albums, these new HD Tracks re-masters are the original mixes of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty from 1970. Now, you'll be able to hear both the 1970 original mixes and the 2001 remixes in high resolution.

BTW how many GB/TB of live stuff on your hard drive has been rendered as jack shit because of these end of journey releases?

If that's not what you are saying then please clarify as it most certainly reads like you believe that these recordings in every format known to man or woman have been rendered as jack shit by these downloads. And it's your first hand live experiences, as well as having heard them in every known format, and the comment by the producer that are being used to give credibility to your pronouncement.

the sonically inferior ones will be in HR. Until then, sonically they are JS. However I am speaking only of the sound, musically they are alright with me.
And it is, isn't it, all about the music?
But if one had to choose the same performances low rez Vs. Hi Rez
then there is no contest...Especially at 24/192
