The Stooges S/T

I remember the first time I was exposed to The Stooges. It was via Sonic Youth with an incredible cover of "I Wanna Be Your Dog". It was later that I bought a huge lot of CDs and 'Raw Power' was in that lot. At that time I had never heard anything so loud, distorted, and raw except for Sonic Youth. Right now I'm listening to The Stooges self titled album on LP. Listening to it I notice a few things that I remember hearing in Sonic Youth. The song 'We Will Fall' by The Stooges, in the beginning of Sonic Youth's 'Teenage Riot' Kim Gordon is singing "we will fall". This is an homage to The Stooges and I quickly recognized it when I first listened to The Stooges S/T via Rhapsody just this summer. Further listening revealed another familiar track to me and that song was 'Not Right'. I quickly recognized that familiar song and again it was Sonic Youth. On 1985's 'Bad Moon Rising' the song 'Society Is Hole' samples The Stooges 'Not Right' at the very end of the song with the song being played through an amplifier. And lastly The Stooges S/T is a hell of a recording for critical listening. Always loved the way Sonic Youth and Stooges sounded on the system. Well keep listening everyone, keep the music alive, cherish it, pass it on.

I started getting onto the Stooges during the abyss where the vinyl was out of print and/or hard to find and the CD reissues had not come out.....or CD's themselves either! Lots of fun. When I found out Hunt Sales was Soupy Sales son that added another layer. So did seeing Iggy in "Dead Man".

Love to see that another asylum member likes this band and type of music. Also I enjoyed reading about your experience and the little bit of history you provided. Very interesting! Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words. I worked in a record store in the mid 80's and was always close to that biz as two friends owned stores starting in the 70's. Great stories and being able to get on the guest list at the 9:30 club in DC with a phone call was priceless!
