one of the two instruments I play well, tambourine being the other. Was there ever a better CB tune than the Chamber Brother's Time?
Not to mention the shear perfection of that lead vocal.

Indeed, there was never – and likely never shall be – a better cowbell tune than “Time.”

As Ed McMahon exulted on myriad “Tonight” shows, “Right you are, sir!!!!”

And the vocal does fit the song and the message to a T.

Happy days,

"Time Has Come Today". Quite perfect. Did you know that the Chambers Brothers cut a disc with Barbara Dane early in their career? It worked.

... what other great rock tunes start with solo cowbell – at least a whack or two?

Ya gotcher “Mississippi Queen” and ya gotcher “Honky Tonk Woman” for sure.

What other goodies get a-goin' with a bovine gongin‘ (ahem)?

Should be a crime playing this cut from a digital file as well!

...back in 1968 - 1969 I saw them live 3 times.

Whenever they played Denver, they would come to Boulder at Univ. of Colo. and put on a free afternoon concert - once on the library footsteps and the next year on a football practice field - so we saw them up close.

Then I saw them at Red Rocks.

I also saw West, Bruce and Laing in the CU Fieldhouse after that but I thought they had lost it without Felix.

. . . the original wonderment was “... what other great rock tunes start with solo cowbell – at least a whack or two?”

The Nazareth tune is the only one listed so far that fits that bill.

Excellent cowbell songs, all, but what else out there truly starts with a lone cowbell before anything else joins it?
