that is hard to understand.

Discussing with my wife who has sold more records: Queen or, bloody hell, Céline Dion I Gooogled the question and what I found is even worse than I thought.

What is their definition of popular?

Whatever that site is it makes USA Today seem intellectual.

It doesn't diminish how much you enjoy music that was out-sold by something less worthy.

But it was an interesting read - thanks. I thought that music sales back in the 60s and 70s were bigger than more recent times so I am surprised by some of the claims/facts. Some I'm not, as the great unwashed far outnumber us more discerning listeners.

I never pretended that site was run by the elite for the elite, but I don't think they necessarily fudged the figures.

I had never consulted that site, but, as you probably understand, my quick search was just that and not quite aimed at the level of post-doc work.

I presumed record sales were at historic highs decades ago, but I'm sure they accounted for downloads to reach the conclusions they did on sales.

Doesn't surprise me, since the advent of the internet.......you can go to the record store and never leave home.

Not sure what any of that has to do with me, posted on July 27, 2014 at 13:06:12

Shania Twane might be the best looking female singer of all time.

as long as the suppliers look good, and they can dance to it, it's enough. They don't know what they're missing, and they don't care.

I always find it a bit of a surprise to come across someone who is fairly indifferent to music, but there are lots of them.

…is look at a list of number one hits to see that record sales have never been an indication of music quality.

I live in Las Vegas which has a lot of pawn shops & have been in some a few times. And every time I go in & check the used CD section I find more New Kids On the Block than ANY other CD, I mean by the dozens!!
