I do a lot of gaming and my current Cambridge soundworks dtt2500 bit the dust last night. What is a great new speaker system and have you heard it play? I dont live within 200 miles of a best buy or soundtrack or whatever store to go audition one. I would have to mail order it.

I have not purchased computer speakers for a while, but I ran across this:

http://www.vonschweikert.com/fps_speaker.html

Although I have not heard these, this company has a good reputation and offers a free trial. I have been tempted to try them myself even though I am not currently in the market for a smaller speaker set.

I've abondoned powered speakers in favor of a reciever / mid-fi speakers. It sounds a LOT better than my former Cambridge Soundworks speakers: more power, more clarity, PLUS the reciever allows a real CD player and FM radio into the mix. The system also pushes headphones way better than a PC.

Turtle Beach 20 bit card & Toshiba 3950 >> Yamaha 595 receiver >> Polk rt25i speakers

The Polks were $200 on sale.

You didn't mention your budget but these are well worth a look. Looking to take the place of the Logitech THX Certified Z-680 5.1 Speaker 500Watt System, the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 Digital Speaker System w/Digital Hardware Decoder , could be the best bet on the market right now. Notice that the url's are newegg.com so you can mail order. Good luck.

This would get my vote also. If you can handle eBay, some good deals would be available. Heck, you might even find an old tubed receiver to smooth out that pc sound.

For me, I lucked out a few years ago and bout some Jamo CS-5 speakers. They have a four channel amplifier (!), a 5 1/4 and a 1" tweeter. I could not believe the sound. Alas, they are no longer made. I keep searching for more of them somewhere....

Try the receiver/speaker combo. I suspect they woudl do you well.
