I installed the latest Roon 1.3 and it went w/o a hitch. Works great, sounds great, but I haven't played with the new features yet.

"We've added a whole family of audio and DSP features with a 64-bit audio pipeline, including dynamic range analysis, EQ, upsampling, crossfeed for headphones, and adjustments for headroom as well as corrections for speaker phase and delay."

Might be interesting to compare vs the Roon+HQPlayer combo.

I have never upsampled before and find that using Roon to upsample to 2X PCM smooths out and deepens the soundstage with my W4S DAC-2 DSD. But I can't get Roon to upsample to DSD even though the W4S is DSD-capable and Roon shows playback to DSD256 is supported for it. Don't know if it is the W4S driver, Roon, or my Core i5 3.4GHz processor that is the issue. Looking forward to getting the PS Audio Stellar DAC to see if I can get Roon's DSD upsampling to work with it.

On another note, the Roon "Play Artist" feature still absolutely sucks. For example, if I play Kenny Burrell, for whom I have 25 albums in my library as primary artist and another 24 where he a contributing artist, Roon cycles through cuts from only a half dozen of the albums.

Not sure if this is the case universally, but in my setup I can't enable the Roon DSP volume control and also enable upsampling to DSD. I can, however upsample to PCM with DSP volume control enabled.

I can't comment on Roon PCM to PCM upsampling as I haven't tried it yet. I enjoyed 2x upsampling in AV+ but only on my 16/44.1 files. I left the higher res PCM 'native'.

I haven't had a chance to play with any of the new Roon features yet so please keep us posted!

Roon DSD upsampling works with DSP EQ, but not with DSP volume control!, posted on February 12, 2017 at 05:43:35

For some reason, Roon tries to perform volume DSP after DSD conversion, but the parametric EQ function is performed prior to DSD conversion.

I have been messing around with Roon's parametric EQ and I think it will very useful. I am planning to get a mic and software to measure in-room response.

The top graph is a FR response curve for the Magnepan MMG that was supposedly provided by Wendell Diller of Magnepan. Just for fun (I realize the in-room response will be much different), I tried a curve to smooth out the troughs and it sounds really good.
