I'm thinking of building another PC and the case I like has no spot for an optical drive.

I rarely use my drive. When I buy a new cd I rip it, that's about it. Once in a great while I'll install an old game or other software.

Do usb drives rip a lot slower than internal drives, or is it about the same?

Thanks for any comments.

PS: The usb 3.0 drives appear to be crazy expensive compared to 2.0.

PPS: Case I'm looking at is Phanteks Evolve ATX. Looks pretty nice.

I use an external Samsung USB drive but also have an optical drive built in to my PC. I cannot tell the difference between using the two ( using DBpoweramp).

However there are occasions when a given CD will not rip easily on one drive but will on the other for some reason. Neither drive is, however, superior to the other overall.

Maybe five haven't worked.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to make sure I was going to be taking half an hour to rip a disk on my new super-fast PC.
