PS Audio's new product the LANRover USB Transporter is available for pre-order with shipping in mid August.

For those of us in the beta program shipping starts next week.

If the product lives up to its claims, it will be a real solution for those of us stuck with USB. And with its flexibility, those with their computers in another room will be able to hook it up in a couple of different ways.

Just go to the link, as I am not knowledgeable enough to explain it properly.

I'm quite excited.

IS this device just for streaming music from your internal Files? IOW - It does not provide for Internet Streaming from Spotify etc. ??

Cool! Let us know how you like it.

BTW, what computer hardware & software setup will you be using with your LANRover?

And I assume you'll be using your Benchmark Dac2 HGC?

Check the link out. It is a two piece device that improves the usb interface.

From the linked page:

"LANRover is like the Power Plant of digital audio—cleaning, isolating, regenerating and newly formatting USB musical data, a process that dramatically improves audio performance with any DAC. In addition to improving USB audio, LANRover can physically separate your computer or music server from the sound system. USB audio signals, which rapidly degrade over distance, can now be sent from any room in your home to any other without loss of performance. In fact, LANRover significantly improves performance of any USB source for any musical signal, regardless of distance."

It's like a USB regenerator/ recovery / fixer plus galvanic isolator rolled onto one.

How much is it?

Here's my understanding of the LANRover:

It is a USB-to-Ethernet-to-USB converter with a "transmitter box" and "receiver box". Each box is connected via Ethernet cable.

Whatever you would normally send to your DAC directly via USB cable (whether they be local files or Spotify from your internet connected computer), you can send thru the LANRover pair via Ethernet.

However, unlike a "Streamer" (think microRendu and others), the LANRover offers no intelligence to run it's own Apps or streaming protocols. It's claim to fame appears to be cleaning up the USB interface to your DAC much like a REGEN, Intona USB Isolator, and other similar devices BUT it does so by converting USB to Ethernet then back to USB.... using two boxes.

IMHO and unless I'm missing something here, you probably achieve many of the same benefits of LANRover with a good network "Stremer" with the added benefits of streaming protocols and Apps to support your favorite streaming services.

Of course ALL of the above also assumes that USB is such a nasty thing that it requires all of this "fixing" to sound decent.

$599 according to the PS Audio website.

But... for $640 there's the microRendu which is a different animal but may offer many of the same benefits as the LANRover and then some. See my comments to Cut-Throat.

Yep agreed - the mRendu is a built in streamer too. Maybe not as isolating or regenerating as the LAN Rover given the size if the size is any indication...

Feels like it is targeted at PS Audio DS DAC users.

No, just the opposite, owners of the Directstream have Bridge II, which is still supposed to be a little better than the LANRover and is Roon ready, amongst other features.

The LANRover is for people like me who use a laptop for PC Audio or for those who run a computer in another room.

In my first two posts I linked to the PS Audio web page where you will get a proper description.

This is not something I have even thought about with my Squeezebox Touch into my DAC....

Abe, yes the Benchmark Dac2 HGC will be on the receiving end, my Toshiba laptop running JRiver 21 will be the player.

The LANRover comes with a foot long Ethernet cable ana a meter long usb cable. I need to sell my 3m AQ Cinnamon usb, or trade it for a .5 or.75m cable of better quality. I also have a AQ Cinnamon in 1.5m that I would like do the same with. I no longer need either cable that long.
My LineStreamer+ is now quite close to the laptop, and with the LANRover I can keep the usb cables short and go with a longer ethernet cable. I'm going to talk to my dealer and see what he is willing to do for me.

This is different. I already use Jitterbug, which made a small but worthwhile improvement.

I'm in as well.

Will be comparing it to my USB REGEN/linear power supply.

Best regards,

Glad to hear it.

I wonder if you remember me? We met at Audio Emporium when you were there demonstrating the Advantgarde speakers. And a while later you sold me some isolators, maybe Aurios? I do remember they were the first generation.

I wonder if your linear power supply will work with the LANRover? And if it would be an improvement.

I need to get some shorter usb cables. I will have no need for the 3m AQ Cinnamon or 1.5m one I was using with my LineStreamer+.

I am thinking if I can sell the 3m I could buy two of the .5m Pangea silver.

I am also getting the Beta LANRover next week.
I already own the Intona, Recovery, and 2 Mutec units. So it should be an interesting comparison

Hi Jeff,

Nice to hear from you again!

Re your question about a linear power supply, mine is 9V and cannot be changed. so I suspect it's too high, though I have not inquired of PS yet.

Best regards,

Jim Smith
