As per recommendation from inmates and purpotedly from Mr. Swedson himself, I purchased this power supply http://www.ebay.com/itm/30W-DC9V-Hifi-Linear-power-supply-Regulated-PSU-for-DAC-amp-digital-display-/141503525422?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20f244722e

It is however spec'd to output 9 v. In fact the front display indicates somewhere around 9.28. Does anyone know how to configure it to output 8 v? Thank you.

It is speced to output 9V not watts. The display should read between 8 and 9 volts. Doyou have it connected to the Regen? If it is saying 2.28v then something is wrong with it. I also use this with my Regen

The 9.28 reading is within the 5% possible loaded reading error mentioned on the website.. in any case you can use it at around 9V for a Regen no problem. It may be user adjustable, but I would not be afraid to use 9V until you find the method..

Edit: If your DAC is using the 5V power from the USB line, keep a watch on heat buildup on the Regen... 9V seems the upper range Uptone recommends for DAC's where the DAC is using the USB line for power supply... I think your PS is the same model used by some guys at CA, you may check there if some adjustment possible

(The TeraDak LPS I understand is user adjustable via a screw setting within the PS, but you would not want to go fiddling around inside a LPS unless you are are qualified working with mains power)

These power supplies are based on the LT serirs of chips which do not perform that well and do not sound as good with the Regen as better PSs. I have used the Terdak with the Regen and have relegated it to powering my external eSata ssd.

Call the manufacturer. ;-)

Unless it has a trimpot, you'll need to know the type of regulator chip and the value of the resistors around it.... and reverse engineer a schematic to know which resistor values to alter.

For a quick fix, you can simply place two silicon diodes in series with the output to drop the voltage by about ~1.2 to ~1.4v (load current dependent) with a commonly available 1N400x diode (1N4001, 1N4003, etc.).

Keep in mind the 1N400x series are rated at 1-Amp but you're not likely to draw anywhere near that unless your DAC is fully powered by USB only. If you think you need higher current you can try a couple 1N5408 diodes or similar. The point being, each silicon diode in series will drop your voltage by about .6 - .7 v or so. Try a couple, try three, experiment. They're cheap.

Try it with your load and measure with your DMM.

According to John Swenson 9V is no trouble for the Regen

Not sure what you are saying. The Regen needs at least 5v to operate correctly and John Swenson recommended this power supply running at 9v for the Regen
. His voltage is very low and your telling him how to further drop it
The unit he has is supposed to put out 9v. I have the same unit

The guy asked how to drop the voltage. I told him.

That was the edited post that I just saw. It was not his original post. Buy the way there is no need to drop the voltage. The voltage he is seeing works perfect with the Regen.

Geeze!!
I have one and it works well improves on the stock "Meanwell" SMPS supplied by the Regen.

It is adjustable very EASY!! Remove the cover just the 2 top screws on front and back. Front are allen screws. Inside you will see a small grey bloc with a tiny brass screw on top about the size of an eye glass screw. Turn it clockwise no much and the voltage goes down. Must be adjusted when plugged in so BE CAREFUL! Adjust it to the front meter reading or better use a volt meter. Done!
All this stupid stuff being described. Most of these PS's have an adjustment like this.

I run mine at 8 volts. Yes it bounces around to 8.24 and down.

More info go to the Computer Audio Site and look it up. "el cheapo" Chinese Power Supply. Made pretty well for the cost and a lot of people are using them.

That's fine. He asked how to drop the voltage and I showed him how. Whether he thinks he needs to or not is his business.

+2.

As per Alan's recommendation awhile back, and run mine at 7.50V, and find that in my system along with said Regen and Curious or Supra USB cables it strikes me as being very well balanced throughout.

I'm still holding my breath awaiting the dedicated UpTone Audio LPS, as I'm to assume it should be even better.

Yeah, that's probably a trimpot.
