PlayClassics is providing free downloads of some of their master files for Computer Audiophile members. Definitely worth a trip to the site.

I was happy to donate, but what troubled me was the web page giving 320kps as the resolution and no higher!

Does making a request allow download of wav or flac at 24/96?

There are two formats on the web site for "Iberia":

A 320 MP3 (which I believe also has a certain amount of dynamic compression in addition to the lossy encoding).

A "Truthful master" which the web site shows (and I can verify) is a 96/24 download. That's the one that I commented on in the thread.

Beautifully played and the recording captures wonderful tonality and dynamics. Thank you Tony!

I just downloaded four 24/96 tracks myself, based on your recommendation, and listened to them via HQ Player on an Apple MacMini. I think I want to live with them for a little while before I comment further, but it seems to me that the piano itself that they're using might be an older instrument (first half of the 20th century). I'm basing this observation on the quality of the bass sound. Did it seem that way to you too?

I know it is a Yamaha tuned by Martinez himself.

BTW, the tuning seemed fine. Now I'm wondering if it's perhaps a 7 1/2 footer, rather than a full size?

EDIT: BTW, I just looked at your system and I like your turntable! ;-)

I only know it is 25 years old Yamaha.

You liked my turntable, eheh?! :-)
Nowadays I use HQPlayer for digital source.

The bass sounded nice to me . Perhaps a bit stronger than my late wife's Steinway B (7 foot). I could have taken it for a full size (concert grand). It's hard to tell sometimes, because what you hear will depend critically on room acoustics (recording venue and playback room).

What I found interesting was that the recording had a nice amount of depth, while still keeping some of the up close piano noises, such as the tampers. This is what you would hear in a close in seat in a recital hall, but not, perhaps, in a larger concert hall.

I thought the tuning was perfect throughout the first six tracks of Iberia.

Hi,

sorry, I may be a little late for this thread...

My name is Mario Martinez from PlayClassics.

I have seen some of you have downloaded some of our music.

We have developed a new calibration (version 2.0) that we have applied to all our albums (except for the Preludes). This has been released on August 1st 2016.

We are currently holding a master file giveaway at other audiophile forums.

If you downloaded any of our albums prior to this date I would love to send you a Gift Code so you can download the upgrade and enjoy the new sound.

I would feel bad if you actually bought the album since we are currently giving them away next door :)

Actually what I would like to do is open a thread to offer that master file giveaway here at Audio Asylum
