My UpTone USB REGEN arrived late this evening around dinner time, and then we had company over so I didn't get to play with it much. I hooked it up and it works, but I haven't compared my system sound with and without it. More to follow probably after the weekend.

In the mean time I wanted to see what it 'looks like' in the USB device tree and I was able to determine that the USB hub chip in the REGEN is made by SMSC. Maybe someone already discovered this.

The screen shots below show the USB device tree on my Mac for my Ayre QB-9 DSD DAC without the REGEN and with the REGEN.

Without REGEN

With REGEN

It's smaller than I expected as it sits on my calculator for relative size comparison

The included power supply is pretty hefty and much larger than the REGEN

Attached to my Ayre DAC USB port with a small box under the REGEN for support

and the difference is an improvement, to report on the differences you hear between the 'plug' and the 'short' USB cable supplied with the device.

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass

I have had my Regen for about a month. Today I received the Audioquest Jitterbug. So what I have now is the following
MacBook Pro running Yosemite $1200
Audioquest Jitterbug $50
LightHarmonic Lightspeed 10g USB cable $999
Uptone audio Regen p0wered by a Hifi 2 way linear power supply DC-2 $175 $62
Metrum Hex or Teredac Chamelion Dacs $3200 $580

The Regen alone or the Jitterbug alone both increase the clarity and richness of the sound
The two together make an overall increase in the richness and resolution which is very easy to hear. Since these devices are very reasonably priced if you use USB one of each will definitely be a worthwhile investment. I included prices above to show how the cost of these two tweaks is small compared to the other components in the digital chain. Looking forward to Abes experience with the Regen
Alan

Yup, my ~30 year old HP 11C calculator still works great!

The real deal HP-11C

HP-11C on my iPhone but I prefer the tactile keys on the 'real deal'

Already known as revealed by the manufacturer themselves. Same chip as in the Wyrd.

I'd be curious to know which specific SMSC chip it is. Do you know or do you have a link to the info? There are several variations of the SMSC USB chip. Thanks.

A search for that on the computeraudiophile forum should yield the result.

It says not use them in series, only parallel.
Doesn't seem to be how Inmates are using them.

AQ clearly says a maximum of 2 jittrbugs should be used but the lunatic fringe and AQ shills will tell you that 4, 8, heck, even 16 are better.

Jon L, if you would be willing to specify the parts you used to assemble this, it would be most appreciated. With some time, I could probably assemble the parts from the PartsExpress website but you could make it much easier!

My parts for the battery power supply are starting to arrive.
I've heard said/read that a cap across the terminals can be helpful in smoothing things out. Anyone have info on what type/value might work best in this application?

Streaming TIDAL today with Regen AND Aries on battery power - very nice indeed. A sense of quietude prevails behind and between the musi.
