OK, the audiophile 'purists' won't like it anyway but...

QOBUZ OS-X app > Apple AirPlay > Apple TV > Optical Out > Wyred 4 Sound Remedy Reclocker > DAC > Main System.

I know that the QOBUZ app supprts AirPlay over Ethernet to the Marantz NA-7400 but the rest is unknown to me as I have not purchased the Apple TV box as yet.

here's something for around $30.

would that work?

no need for a TV if you just need music.

Thinking it may be because Apple is coming out with something different/better, at least for TV.

What I really don't know is exactly WHAT is coming out of that so-called "Optical audio" port and exactly whether this is useful:

"HE-AAC (V1), AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV; Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through"

I'm guessing that AirPlay ends up handling QOBUZ Lossless FLAC using Apple Core Audio, but I have no way of knowing if this is done or how it's done.

Having heard Hi Rez files 'down-sampled' to 16/44.1 and sent out over WiFi, using AirPlay, to a high end player/DAC, I have no fear that there is any technical reason this can't sound decent, irrespective of what certain know-nothing nay-stayers here might think. ;-)

i thought I remembered Apple making this wifi thing you plug in the wall that was wireless and had a digital out.

I can't afford apple products, I am a Linux/chromeos guy nowadays. I had a PowerBook long time ago using the Power PC chip from IBM,

Good luck in your quest ....

I might check out tidal, but Deezer has Thergothon, and more albums than what you said tidal has regarding what I listen to ...

But I really like the search function of QOBUZ for Classical music. If QOBUZ were on the SONOS, I'd be done.

With QOBUZ I type 'BACH'in the search box and you get a listing of 13,699 albums. OK, there are some duplicates, but it's a nice starting point!

I may get a TV in the listening room, but it has to share space with two turntables, so it can't be too wide.

We have no desire to be paying $100+ a month for cable, so Apple TV or some other internet box would make sense. living a couple blocks from a library branch makes movie rental pretty cheap.

Still have no idea why AC outlet Ethernet box hooked to the Marantz NA-7004 causes noise in the system, but it does, and only while data is streaming. Seems to be associated with a new tube preamp I recently acquired. Might try a shorter cable from the AC outlet Ethernet box or try running a 50 ft length of cable from the Ethernet hub up the stairs to the loft to see if that cures the noise problem.

I doubt if this is going to work as Apple don't support FLAC

It will probably work but probably won't be bit perfect. I don't know of any way to bypass the standard audio chain (volume control etc.) when using AirPlay. I don't have Qobuz but I think it streams FLAC. AirPlay is ALAC. And I think Apple TV converts everything to 48 KHz. So there will be a string of lossless conversions: FLAC->PCM->ALAC->44.1K PCM->48K PCM.

I've done some streaming of uncompressed 44.1K music to my Linn DS boxes via AirPlay and it isn't quite as good as DLNA playback but it's better than 320kbps lossy streams. In my case, I think the audio stays 44.1K throughout, and there is no sample rate conversion to 48K.

as I running AirPlay from QOBUZ to the NA-7004 via Ethernet before my pre-amp blew.

The noise associated with the AC Plug Ethernet kluge reared its ugly head when I went with a new tube preamp.

Not a bit-perfect kind of guy as I am willing to accept that Lossless FLAC streaming ain't perfect.

Just better than 320kbps MP-3 would be fine(which it was before).

Qobuz is on Sonos! This is what I am listening to as I type this message.

Try writing a polite email to Sonos tech support ...

But if I were, this is what I would be listening to. Just popped up on QOBUZ, new release from Harmonia Mundi.

Yes, I MIGHT be able to take my SONUS to Europe and link up to QOBUZ there, but here in the US there is no QOBUZ on the SONOS likely because QOBUZ has no license to stream here in the US as yet (if ever). :-(

AirPlay to the NA-7004 should keep the stream at 16/44.1k, and at 100% volume and no equalizer, it might even be bit perfect. Whereas the Apple TV will convert to 16/48k.

You no longer have the Marantz?

and the listening room is on a third level (loft). Yeah, did a massive remodel (added a story) to a 60 year old home just a few years ago and didn't think to have the house wired for Eithernet.

Tried Eithernet through the AC lines of the house and it worked great till I replaced the preamp. Now the digital stream is 'dittybopping' away in the background any time it's streaming through the AC lines to the NA-7004.

USB works fine buy lugging the labtop upstairs any time I want to hear something on the main system (used for vinyl mostly) is a pain.

Did you buy your SONOS system in Europe or set it up for Service over there?

I still do not see QOBUZ on my on my list of supported services under Service Settings or SONOS Labs.

I contacted SONOS directly some time ago and they stated that QOBUZ was not supported by SONOS in the US at this time.

Guess I should have taken both the speaker and the Bridge to Europe with me last year. =:-0

For stereo sources, the ATV optical output will be 16/48k PCM which the Marantz should handle just fine. ALAC is used to compress the stream for wireless transmission; it is encoded in the computer and decoded in the ATV.

Some Sonos components bought in Russia, others here ...

I am not sure how Sonos support works. I could not see TIDAL in supported services here in US for a couple of months, and then it appeared. Same thing with Qobuz.

I wish I could help more.

Tidal was on a 'beta' basis when I first set it up. I don't really understand what components actually store the configuration.

The speaker or the bridge?

Not the computer because it need not be on to play the system.

If you are enjoying QOBUZ on the SONOS here I would suggest that you DO NOT do a software update no matter how hard they get you to try, as the latest software upgrade done here shows no QOBUZ.
