Wyred 4 Sound modified Sonos Connect in my system

compared to stock, f*cking unbelievable ...

No comparison, at close to $1k this is awesome. I use the Deezer Elite streaming FLAC streaming service exclusively, very nice, living the dream.

Hear much more unheard notes and music, detail, bass is real, drums are tighter, more realistic presentation compared to the stock Sonos Connect.

Out of the box, very nice, this is not a buyers hype, this is a nice upgrade, I recommend. Just IMHO.

I think that it's so much of a better way to go to have an audio designer/manufacturer, modify and improve a device made for audio playback: than have a consumer modify and strip down a multi-function, noisebox, - computer.

for what you speak I can't say anything.

I went the Squeezebox route when they were slimdevices, many years ago, went through all iterations, since most of my stuff is only available at CD quality Sonos is fine.

I have a bluesound node for high res WAV and a windows 8.1 laptop / foobar2000 for DSD using an Aune S16 DSD DAC.

I got it all, just wish someone would re-standardize music, too many choices, and no we don't need physical disks. I am happy paying $10 a month for s*hit.

My SONOS seems to work well anywhere in the house without problems using the bridge.

I really need something to stream QOBUZ to my main system, as the room isn't wired for Ethernet and the Ethernet through AC Lines is causing noise in the tube preamp when data is flowing through it to my AirPlay enabled network player.

But as I have TIDAL on the SONOS, I suppose I could stream it to the main system using the SONOS Bridge and the SONOS Connect.

If I can't find what I want on TIDAL (TIDAL search for Classical sucks) I could drop TIDAL and sign up for DEEZER.

Also could go with used Squeezebox touch off of ebay, if I thought I could figure out how to get QOBUZ to work on it.

Could have a few years ago when I had more active brain cells, but... :-(

The Aune doesn't do redbook level?

I would be really curious to know how the Aune + computer compares to the new, modified, Sonos.

Thanks again for your posts and info....

The price seems to be $890 if you buy the Sonos Connect from Wyred 4-Sound.

I have Ethernet jacks in every room of my house. Wired up.

Sonos and Aune.

I use the Sonos for redbook. Redbook on the Aune from a PC sounds inferior.

I ordered overnight shipping.

It is great stuff. Not sure if they have low overhead or make it rather quickly. Took about 5 days to get it.

the wireless doesn't have a strong signal after modification, I could not setup the wireless connection with my iPad, that low signal. So I suggest if you get this thing to get yourself a couple of switches, run Ethernet under your carpet all around the house, a couple of switches and you will then be cool.

it seems that way , I could see myself getting their DSD DAC in the future, as my Bel Canto DAC3 is getting long in the tooth.

a floor away from the office with the hub.

When you say wireless doesn't work well after the mod, are you saying wireless with home WiFi or the SONOS Bridge?

i would honestly advise against wireless completely. I had my iPad a foot away and it didn't see the sonos during setup. Lucky I have network switched all over the place going around 3 floors. It's f*cking radio shack in my house if you know what I mean. I wired the house with Ethernet, netgear switches on a 35/35mbps fiber connection.

Could also be that the wireless turns off when you plug in Ethernet , W4S recommends the sonos being close to the WAP. I will not test it however. I hate wireless.

Works like a champ and yes, I have TIDAL running on it and it works perfect.

Too perfect as my wife plays internet radio on it all day! :-(

But I need some way of getting QOBUZ/TIDAL/DEEZER up to the main system without lugging my computer upstairs and hooking it up to the streamer with a 10 meter USB cable.

So should I get my Connect modified too? (I'm currently enjoying Deezer Elite as well). There have been lots of raves for the modification, although I also recall a post somewhere that there isn't a huge difference if you already have decent jitter reduction treatment.

I have the stock Connect-->Blue Jeans coax cable-->Monarchy DIP (jitter box)-->Cardas Lightning coax cable-->JISCO jitter attenuator-->MSB Link III (with upgraded parts from Channel Islands, upsampling board). Also using a Monolithic power supply and a Pangea power cable for the MSB.

The Connect is a big improvement over the Pioneer DV-525, which had been a fairly decent CD transport.

This article linked below had a great deal on helping me pull the trigger on this one. The equipment used is known to be revealing, I noticed a night and day difference with my humble Bel Canto system.

also here's the list of modifications wyred 4 sound does to the sonos according to their site

Upgraded SONOS Connect Features:
High-end sample rate converter made by TI
Low jitter clock with less than .5ps jitter
Low noise power supply for the clock and SR
Micro processor controller
Input & output digital buffers

ok, get the stock Sonos Connect and get a reclocker.

I was going to get the separate reclocker wyred for sound makes first (I think it is about $400), but noticed the mod uses low noise power supply so I went with the mod because I'm dedicated to Sonos now. The system is magnificent, if your wife uses it that is an idea about how great the system is. Not to knock on your wife (I don't have a wife, I wish I did), but women tend to be impatient with things that don't go smooth (could also be why I don't have a wife, haha).

:)

I put a link to the reclocker w4s makes below:

If that's the case, an I am assuming that it's the optical output of the Apple TV of which they speak, does that mean an Apple TV will work as an AirPlay receiver for audio only (no video)?

At $99 Apple TV might be the best way to get QOBUZ up to my main system via WiFi?

Then I'd have to buy a TV for the listening room. :-(

Thanks for the informative link. I'm probably leaning toward trying a modded Connect in the next few months. By that time, my system will probably break the world record for jitter reduction. :-)

I just have been playing around with the optical and spdif outputs, I like both, but the SPDIF seems smoother, not as in my face. More listenable, why would the seem better on SPDIF?

They also upgraded the SPDIF output jack too on it, more hefty than the stock one.
