Just got an Auricle Aries for my system. I am basically using it to stream Tidal to my Metrum Hex dac. Sounds wonderful and I am no longer getting the occasional stoppages I was getting when using my laptop for streaming. Also the streaming with this device is gapless which it wasn't with my laptop. Does anyone know if I can stream music stored on my pc with the Aries or do I need a separate NAS device>

directly over WiFi and gapless at 16/44.1 lossless FLAC?

Do you have to hook up some kind of interface in order to log in?

Will it support QOBUZ as well?

Spotify?

Yes, Quobuz is built in along with Tidal and airplay, streaming radio stations and playing files from a NAS server. You can hook it up with an ethernet connection to your router or it will connect to your local WiFi. It has a cool remote that is an app on your IPad and soon to be if not already on IPhone or Android device. It has a much better search engine for Tidal which has been a problem with Tidal. This fixes it. It has coax, UBS, optical and balanced outputs that connect directly to your dac. It also handles DSD and all HiRez formats

$1,600 is a lot of green for streaming tunes over the internet.

Plus I'd have to upgrade my DAC, just to do it justice, and that's another $1000, all the while hoping it has a decent headphone amp.

I have the more expensive one. Yes pricy but since I have it it is all I listen to.

For me anyway.

Hopefully, like decent DACs, the price of streamers will drop as more high resolution streaming becomes available.

What I'm really looking for is a streaming bridge that also includes a DAC and headphone amp.

Something on the order of my current streamer, the Marantz NA-7004 but with WiFi and the ability to stream QOBUZ, TIDAL, etc. directly over the internet without a computer.

The Aries is high on my list of potential purchases. Hence I have spent some time looking into its cpabilites. So, the answer to your query about streaming from your PC music is yes. It has a USB2 input so you can connect your PC via this or use an external hard disk that has the music stored on it.

The question then is how is the music navigated? As I understand it you need the Auralic Lightning app which installed on an i-pad.There is an Android version either to be released soon or which has come out in the past couple of weeks.

The question for me is how does the Lightning app handle the metadata (tagging) that is presumably linked with your FLAC files on your PC? I am particulalry interested in this and how it performs with classical tags which require more fields than I see in the Auralic screenshots of the app. Perhaps you could let me know?

My problem is that I can only connect to my pc over WiFi. When I have some more free time I will talk to Aur Auralic directly to see how I can do this.

You configue your PC as a DLNA server with the PC and Aries connected to the same wifi network.

That's what it says here. Not that I have a clue as what I just said means :-)

Probably all you have to do is enable it in WMP
You have to point WMP to your audio files on the PC
If it is FLAC is probably won't play
WMP is said to downsample your artwork to 250*250
Might automatically reorganize your files
Might automatically update your tags

Minim server or Asset UPnP is a safer bet

Solved the problem. Purchased a WD MyCloud with 3 terabite of storage. Transferred all my music from my PC to the My Cloud. It now plays back from the MyCloud over WiFi to the Auralic Aries and sounds great. It would even do this with DSD files but my dac doesn't do DSD. No big deal. Not a fan of DSD
All is good in the world

Yes, just got mine this last week and very impressed with the sound quality too.
Better sound than Mac mini using Audirvana+ . I'm using USB hard drive directly and it's great. No disc noise.

I had about 10 albums it couldn't read correctly as they were DFF so used Yate to change to DSF and add metadata. This is all new to me and it only took a few tries before I got the hang of it.

Two problems I have is there are two albums that I cannot get to show up at all no matter what I try. Deleted files and then checked metadata then reimported etc. still no show.

Also for some reason my Resonessence Herus Dac works with standard usb but not a dual battery powered usb cable. This has to be the Herus as polish mag used this cable successfully.

My only other issue is volume control. Too loud if playing flac with dsf files in the playlist. If software control selected it wil not play dsf files in said playlist. So it's one or the other.

About to subscribe to Qobuz for streaming.

Most fun piece of gear I've had for a long time

Cheers

Smart

congrats on ARIES . any Tidal dropouts? I'm listening now to longest streak with no dropouts- Sunday morning > 1 hr. Hoping this service is not like the weather. When it works - it's great. Better than most of my CDs.

Why not plug the WD drive DIRECTLY into the USB port on the Aries???

Am I missing something?

If so, what?

I tried that and that didn't work either. Returned the WD and installed Serviio on my main pc. Works like a charm. Streams all music sitting on my PC and it is only $25
