The new release of Audirvana Plus 2.0 should be very significant as it will have a new music library that will no longer depend on iTunes. Now flac and DSD files can be played easily as in JRiver for OSX.

Coming any day now.

Thanks Merc!!

Do you happen to know if the upgrade is free to existing Plus customers?

I use Audirvana at work and I love it.

This could be one of the final nails in the coffin of that POS iTunes.

I do not believe this is a free upgrade. I read a post on another site saying $39 upgrade for current users and $74 for new purchases.

Thanks for the info. Seems reasonable.

The update fees that mwheelerk gave us is correct. I think the cost is very reasonable. I don't think there will be an iPad app for the new music library. Perhaps the old iTunes pairing will still be available for those that desire the remote feature.

Cool! Do you know if it will handle the default iTunes library and meta data structure including album art? Or will one have to recreate it from scratch?

Thanks.

I think the old iTunes pairing will be available, but until its released, I'm not sure about anything.

Thanks.

I have no need for the cataloging, as I used memory sticks to load up files at work and a server at home. But for those who choose to use computers as their source in their main systems, Audirvana is tough to beat on a MAC platform.

I wonder if there will be new features aside form cataloging.

This will be serious competition for Jriver for Mac.

Well, this seems as though it is a potentially dramatic upgrade in convenience for us Audirvarna fans.

However, a fair percentage of the updates (I cannot call them upgrades) over the past several years have lead to sound quality reductions.

The good thing is that WE have the option of sticking with the version that sounds best for us.

Just in case the 2.0 version is NOT a sonic upgrade, then it would be nice if there was a way to install the beneficial new and dramatically upgraded features to an earlier version of Audirvarna without having to degrade the superior sonics of the older version.

Please explain how any updates to Audirvana have led to sound quality reductions. This is nonsense. The software outputs bit bit perfect and always has.

Not so much a sonic update as the new library management.

Audirvana Plus 2.0 (A2) was released today.

Almost all the iTunes metadata is stored in standard tags within the music files themselves. Therefore, A2 reads and displays those tags, and any edits to the tags that you make within A2 will be reflected in iTunes.

One exception is the Rating tag, which is stored only in the iTunes library database, not in the music files. A2 can read and write the Rating if you enable its optional iTunes Sync.

To associate tracks with the correct album, including display of album art, A2 seems less tolerant of tagging errors/inconsistencies than iTunes. This is being discussed at length here:

...one would be transferring all the iTunes files into this new Audirvana and that would become the new music storage place? No need for iTunes at all?

Will they be adding a balance control?? (nt), posted on September 10, 2014 at 09:56:28

Thanks Bob, I read some of the comments and have decided to stay with AV+ 1.5 for a while until they sort things out.
