There is an interesting Q&A with one of the principles of AURALiC, Xuanqian Wang, on audiostream.com.

Interesting read, but some cause for concern:

-They have to stop with the nonsense of calling this a "bridge" to your, DAC, and saying it is NOT a streamer, but "turns your DAC into a streamer". This is bullshit. It IS a streamer. Just like the Sim MiND, the SOtM Mini Server, the Bryston BDP, and a bunch others. BS marketing will not help the cause.

-The app seems to be a work in progress...

-The display makes an audible buzzing noise when active...and was brought to market before it was corrected, and a claimed fix is in the works.

In the Q&A they also never mention the fact you need to have an active, reliable network set up, otherwise, the product is useless. Although they say they are working on the ability to read from directly connected drives, but with only one allocated USB port for this, nothing to get that excited about.

This is a great looking product on paper, and offers several on paper advantages to less expensive solutions like the the SOtM, in that they use Femto clocks (on the LE edition), access to streaming services, linear power supply (on LE edition, etc.

I hope they get right, and don't get tempted with BS marketing, get the app stable, and fix any bugs. I for one find this product very desirable.

I saw it on Sunday at CAS.

First, Aurilic wasn't even in the program guide, - tough to find, - finally found in the Audio Vision room.

I was told that the Aries was really "new" and really should only be used with their DAC, as it doesn't "sound good" on it's own and without using USB.

Then, I asked if it was able to connect to Squeezebox server and I was told that "no it could not."

Overall, - I was unimpressed with the "plasticy" quality of the case as well.

What was frustrating to me, (without going to far into "personalities"), is why did they bother bringing it to the show.... I apologize for the crappy images, - still learning to use my new micro 4:3s camera.

Have not heard it but it's definitely heinous looking.

Thanks for pics.

I believe their current approach is not going to help them.

Ill informed reps, and stupid remarks like it needs to be used
with an Auralic DAC sounds its best do not bode well.

First it has no internal DAC as far as I know, and there are multiple digital outputs, so you can you use with ANY DAC.

I was also rather unimpressed with the look and feel of the Vega DAC in person. It did not "feel" like a $3500 product.

If it can't be used with LMS, that is making it a bit uncompetitive with the SOtM. Also the display seems difficult to read due to the case design, so what is the point of it?

Yeah....

To be fair, - I absolutely did not believe him when he told me that it doesn't connect to the Squeezebox server.

Also, - I'll endeavor to be charitable and say that it may have been a long weekend for the people running the Audio Vision room, and it did look like they actually had it on at some point during the weekend. At the time, the show was coming to a close, and they were spinning vinyl, and really didn't seem too interested in talking about the Aurilic.

On the other hand, it seems like a lot of dealers/resellers are displaying digital file playback devices with inadequate preparation.

Cheers,

I would not be cutting them any slack. Don't display the product if you don't know the first thing about it, and don't feed me some BS sales line.
