for Squeezebox server?

Seems like it might be pretty cool for running Squeezebox Server right on your drive enclosure.

My recollection is that one could run the Squeezebox server on the Thecus line of NAS boxes, but I haven't tried it with my box. I suspect most Linux based servers will have this capability. In the case of the Thecus there was a user provided package.

If so, might want to update to the latest software..., posted on August 5, 2014 at 16:55:48

"Synology has confirmed user reports that some of their Diskstation devices are being taken over by a ransomware attack. The attack replaces the DSM management software on the NAS, encrypts the files on the device and demands that the user pay 0.6 BitCoins to retrieve the files."

My friend & former housemate just bought one yesterday, as he had two PCs die on him & wanted to change up how he was running squeezebox server.

He built our DB of songs, and his NAS acts as one of our backups.

I also saw on their site that it's possible that they don't have the latest software for Squeezebox server either: but not sure about that...

Of course there's no such thing as great security, - but I also believe that we need to do some things to prevent at least second level exploits.

Thanks,

Both Qnap and Synology have easy to install Logitech Media Server application right in their app centres, accessible via their default web UI. There is also packages dedicated for the Netgear line of NAS.
If you want to use the very latest versions and nightlies for QNAP and Synology, it is also not all that complicated, but does require getting software here and there and installation in a more indirect way.

I have been running LMS on a QNAP TS-219PII and a TS-469L. It is good to have LMS always ready without needing to turn on a PC.
