Atma-Sphere Red Light

 I have a question for Ralph or any other Atma-Sphere knowledgeable members. Lately I've notice the red light (the power toggle) on my M60's seems to not stay constantly bright red but wavers a bit dimming a bit then returning to its normal strength. Can anyone explain why it is doing this and should it be a cause for concern. Doesn't seem to have a discernable impact on the sound. Thanks for any advice.

 Hello,

Perhaps, it's loose...have you tried tightening it?

 c1 Ferrari may be correct. It's just a red LED, so far as I know, and does not indicate anything related to the operation of the amplifier by its brightness or lack of same.

 If it's the same as my MA-1's there are separate power and operate lamps. the Power lamp seems to flicker during operation. I have never noticed any sonic issues from this. There are incandescent bulbs under lenses on mine FWIW.

 My amplifiers are probably of an older vintage than most, and they use/used LEDs. Possibly later amplifiers use incandescent bulbs. In fact, I converted my amplifiers to the same, myself.

 I have two pairs of M60s of different vintages and both pair exhibit this behavior, the oldest pair for some 15 years now.

 Its a 6.3 volt bulb that's running at about 4.5V. If running at 6.3 volts it would not flicker, but it would be way too bright! The problem is the contact on the rear of the bulb has a slight amount of corrosion. Remove the bulb by first removing the lens (unscrews); the bulb is released by pushing on it while simultaneously rotating it counterclockwise 90 degrees (bayonet mount, FWIW). Move your fingers out of the way at that point and it will come out of its socket.

Burnish the contact on the end of the bulb by rubbing it vigorously on the carpet or the like for a few seconds and then reinstall it. No more flicker.

 Thank you so much Ralph. Very helpful and much appreciated. I will give that advice a try. One of these days I'm planning to get these babies back to you to update from 3.2 to 3.3. They might be 3.1's now that I think about it. Best.
