Anyone with any experience driving the Atma-Sphere S-30 with a BAT VK-5i preamp (which is fully balanced)? I'll be driving Galante Symphony speakers and am curious to know if others have had experience with this preamp/amp and/or amp/speaker combination. Thanks all.

The S30 is a wownderful amp and I've heard it with a number of pre-amps (not the BAT) and never a problem. The bigger problem is matching this amp with the right speaker IMO. The amp likes to see a flat high impedance load, the flatter and higher the better. The best match I ever got was with a 16 ohm single driver PHY 16 ohm driver. If the impedance of the speaker drops below 7-8 ohms it might not work it's magic.
Call Ralph at Atmasphere, he can give you much more detail regarding his designs.

Thanks very much. The Galante Symphonies are no longer made, so it's hard to get a lot of data on them. They have an 8 ohm nominal impedance but at least one source on-line suggests the impedance drops to a minimum of 5.2 ohms. They have a 98 db sensitivity, and are easily driven by my 2A3 SET amp. Not sure whether they'll be the right speakers for the Atma-Spheres but we shall see! Thanks again.
