This was a nice piece on Julius Futterman. I had frequent contact with Mr. Futterman and also with Doug Cassara in the 1970's. I own the last pair of H3aa's that Mr. Futterman built before NYAL started production of Mr. Futterman's designs. I also own one of Doug Cassara's OTL amplifiers for Stax headphones. Watching Mr. Futterman conduct business out of a very small workspace on 72nd street was a far cry from the facilities available today. Still, he knew his craft, and was always looking to improve on what he had already done. I met Mr. Futterman through Harvey Rosenberg. I had spent much time listening to equipment at Harvey's Central Park West apartment as well. I photographed the "Tube God" brocure for Harvey Rosenberg and Jon Syder in the late seventies prior to Mr. Rosenberg starting his new company New York Audio Laboratories. Those were good times at CPW!

I've written here about visiting Julius Futterman in his 72nd Street "factory" in the late 70s. I too picked up my freshly built H3aa's from him at that location. As you know, he even hand-wound the power transformers for his amplifiers, and I recall there were several that had been dipped in some petroleum derivative or other and were hanging on a clothesline to dry, when I was there. He was a very kind and quiet man. And he charged ridiculously little money for his products, even for those days. I probably owned 4 or 5 true Futterman amplifiers, including some early ones from Harvard Electronics. But unlike yourself, I did not have the wisdom to hold on to them over all the years.
