I never heard anything he did sound cold, it always was warm and golden. We are lucky that recording media exists to continue to enjoy the greats after they are no longer among us.

Well, I answered my own question.
Without doubt, Joe was one of the premier singers of the 20th
century, and not just in jazz. I had the privilege of hearing
him live several times in the 80s and 90s, and shall not soon
forget those magic moments - esp. the first time, when the
first tune he sang was "Whoshedo". If you dont think that
didnt get the crowd going ... I guess you had to be there.

You are absolutely right and none better than this disc which was recorded live to 2 track at the Vine St Bar & Grill in Hollywood, CA (Verve 511 354-2)on May 7 & 8 1987 - never heard him sound better.

We'll miss him but his music will live on!
