Another Kubelik and another in the lineup of Masses and Requiems I've been collecting lately and unheard so looking forward to the washing/vacuuming party tonight (which is unneeded with Downloads, I'll grant you).

$23 Bucks for the lot, an hour at a record store and that irresistible aroma of old cardboard.

 The Kubelik is wonderful and IMHO he best projects Janacek's almost embarrassing sense of ecstasy.

I've listened to more than a few other performances and no one comes close to Kubelik to the end of the Gloria, especially after the grand pause. I love the, er, blissful abandon on the Amen's and his uniquely throbbing trombones.

Try Jansons from 10:20 to end below, some of the most thrillng music every written, but still, Kubelik is most electric here, IMHO.

To be fair, it turns out that Kubelik padded the upward flourish of low strings (10:25) with trombones, IIRC, which makes everyone else sound weak at that point.

Recording is merely OK. I've been debating about trying Gardiner's with the Bergen on Chandos.

Would imagine the BluRay would have better sound than YouTube.

Not sure it's worth $36 to find out (plus the price of a decent BluRay player in my case).

Jilek's recording really shows off the added trumpet, but I can't find it on Youtube. It's on Spotify if you enter "Jenufa, Jilek" track 5 "Oh my darling Steva" at 1.40. Trumpet is at 2.02. This is a really good version of the opera in great sound - by far my preferred version.

 I've been buying DVD Audio versions of stuff (without jooled case) from HDTT and so far so good. Haven't figured out how to rip a DVD Audio but understand there is a 24/192 file somewhere on those silver disks.

My silver disk spinner (Marantz DV-9600) spins them fine and sounds OK but I'd like to try ripping them and hearing what they sound like on my Mac Mini based system with the Audio-GD multibit DAC.
