The Poulenc was new to me when played yesterday, Jeu de Carte heard maybe once or twice over the years and only vaguely familiar so really an album of new music.

Munch really brings the thunder on the Poulenc and the Stravinsky, like his Petrouchka, lets you see the dancers just hearing the music. The recording is well-engineered and Symphony Hall, (do they record at Symphony Hall?) shows what a great hall it is. Good stuff!

I like Poulenc. I'm just beginning to get into his Chamber music, best in small doses though. , posted on February 21, 2017 at 10:46:43
The cello sonata has a nice slow mov't.

IMO, Poulenc did not compose long form chamber music, you know, like Brahms. I have quite a few Poulenc recordings in various genres and I doubt if any of them are as long as thirty minutes.

So, one dose at a time should be plenty.

Naxos released all of it (IIRC) in honor of his 100th birthday in 1999. I suppose Naxos doesn't always knock it out of the park, but they sure did that time. Excellent stuff.

Are you sure you don't mean Monteux/BSO?
