Can a picture reveal anything about a musician's interpretive predilections?

Potrait photography is an art, posted on February 17, 2017 at 07:01:05
and you are comparing a dreadful failure (imho -- but ordinary at best, I think many would at least agree with that) with a superb classic.
In one, a beautiful woman is made to look rather silly and awkward. In the other, a rather ordinary-looking woman is made to look regal and elegant.
Yes, your response will be, the subject has something to do with that, not just the photographer, and these photos reflect something significant about their subjects. But imho, in the end you can't really tell where the subject ends and the photo begins, and that's the magic of photography.
Edit: I'm a very big Clara Haskil fan, and that photo graces at least one of her CD covers, more than one IIRC.

Clara Haskil was many things, 'ordinary' was not one of them.

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass

But her artistic greatness was not apparent from her physical appearance. I doubt she turned heads as she walked by. Just a small woman, increasingly stooped and frail with age and long-term illness.

Still my favorite Mozart pianist of all time, and also great in a broad range of other repertoire. Sadly, I've read she never had the chance to record much of her favorite music -- including Liszt!

BTW, I'll be seeing Yuja tomorrow (she's slumming with the Santa Cruz Symphony), and I'll post a full report here on her sartorial choices for the concert.

Another fun fact: few people know that Clara was Eddie Haskil's older sister! ;-)
