Was David Oistrakh amazingly versatile or what?

I had the DGG Bach Violin Concerti Lp, Oistrakh with his son on second violin. , posted on December 9, 2016 at 22:59:40
Nice warm, atmospheric recordings for DGG IIRC, and sweet second mov't, one of Bach's most beautiful creations. Will be downloading Podger's soon on Channel.

Still love those versions - huge vitality and the supreme Oistrakh sound. Does it for me. Like Richter's D Minor concerto. Same vitality.

versatile is the right word, posted on December 10, 2016 at 06:02:13
Baroque, classical, romantic, modern, small scale, large scale, live, studio, with long time Russian colleagues, with musicians he hardly knew, anywhere, any time, and in at least one case, sight reading. His results ranged from excellent to truly great, and mostly the latter.

Somewhat related.

As far as I know Oistrakh never recorded JSB sonatas & partitas for solo violin, I recall an interview where he was asked why, his reply was that these woks were just too difficult for him to perform, you can read between the lines, my guess is that we were going to have a recording from him eventually but his life was cut too short for that to happen.

then perhaps no one should have recorded them.

One of the greatest violin recordings ever made, imo.

I went back and checked all my sources including ArkivMusic and BWV 1001 is the only one recorded by Oistrakh (Date of recording 1947), if you know of any recording of all sonatas and partitas for solo violin please share the info.
