(Quaintly referred to on the Audiophile Audition report as "Juja Wang")

(Yuja commanding the attention of the whole orchestra - I wonder what piece that is with the cellos over on the left like that? In any case, I'm sure that Yuja makes the remaining years of that old cellist in the middle SO much easier to bear!)

She was Touring with the Shost #1, played it at Davies.
Probably has a Thing for Tpt Players!

A likely story.

let's not revert to ironic references to tired stereotypes. Even my gay friends, relatives and colleagues would be quick to concede that without a perfect @$$ like hers, that dress is not going to do $#!+ for you, regardless of color.
I have a daughter who reads Vogue and watches Project Runway. I know what's poppin', and what isn't.

Actually, was kidding of course. Dressed as a woman for Halloween a long time ago, didn't like it; felt as if my bones lost all their density.

Please, let's change the subject from cross-dressing to something more appropriate and family friendly, like Der Rosenkavalier.

my family doesn't give a $#!+ about Der Rosenkavalier. So that wouldn't be a family-friendly discussion. My younger one did get to go to The Barber of Seville with her sixth grade class last year, just as I did with my sixth grade class.
Except in my case, Figaro was sung by, ahem, Robert Merrill. Distant, ancient history. :-(

It's a bummer when the size stops at 12. nt, posted on October 21, 2016 at 19:59:34

The Shostakovich concertos call for a full string section, so it doesn't seem to fit. The Poulenc has a prominent trumpet part. There is even a suggested seating plan in the score to the Aubade. Obviously, they don't follow it completely, but it might fit what there is to see in the picture. FWIW, I like the piece a lot.

I agree with you that it's not likely to be the Shostakovitch. However, it looks from the picture as if the cellos are right in the front (with no violas in front of them), and I don't see any horns in front of the trumpet (or any woodwinds in between for that matter). Also, does Yuja play the Poulenc Aubade? I wasn't aware that she did - but of course she must be learning new repertoire all the time.

Feet as big as Yuja's scare me. Check out the photo above - I exaggerate nothing.

Strings might have been reversed by the Conductor.
They are often looking for something to separate themselves from the Crowd.
Zander had some "Ideas" about the Firebird, that only HE was aware of.
I still thing it's the Shostakovich because of the Solo Tpt getting a bow, and no other winds near him in the center.
In one video, Yuja and The Tpt Player and Conductor all made their entrance together, down a long Staircase, never seen a Hall set up that way before.
Why the Strings would be reversed is anyone's guess, but the angle of the Photo is leaving out a lot of the stage, so it's impossible to tell who else might be on stage.
Or there's a piece for Piano, Tpt and Celli...

Shostakovich #1, with Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. The picture is sort of an optical illusion, because it is shot at an angle, cutting out the violins that are to the left of the cellos.

From her biography:

He (M. T. Thomas) has learned, he says, to appreciate both her serious side and her playfulness, which can erupt unexpectedly. "In the Shostakovich First Piano Concerto, there is a place where the piano sits quietly during a trumpet solo," he chuckles, "and then it interrupts with an enormous tone cluster that takes up much of the keyboard. Yuja had joked that one of these days she was going to play it with her derriere. Then, one night during the London Symphony tour, she actually did; "she stood up, turned around, and sat on the keyboard. The trumpet player lost it. It also had a big effect on the audience, but somehow the reviewer didn't seem to notice." At around the same time, he says, she was reading the Confucian Analects in the original.

I think anybody would agree that Yuja understands show business! [nt] ;-), posted on October 25, 2016 at 11:22:16
