I posted recently about my gratifying experience obtaining my first BIS multi-channel download from the eClassical site (Stravinsky Pulcinella etc with Suzuki conducting). Subsequently, I've noticed that many new releases on the BIS label have become available as multi-channel downloads on the eClassical site (e.g., the recent Gluzman Prokofiev album which I downloaded at its amazing promotional price of less than $10.00). I was browsing the site last weekend, and noticed that some of the older BIS recordings which I had previously downloaded in 2-channel were now available in multi-channel too. I logged on and found that I was able to get the new multi-channel downloads of these albums, years after I had downloaded the 2-channel versions, FOR NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. IMO, this is absolutely outstanding customer service, and I wanted to acknowledge Robert von Bahr (the "BIS Boss") and George Olvik (who runs the eClassical site) for their exceptional efforts on behalf of their customers! BTW, the two "after the fact" multi-channel albums that I downloaded were the Yevgeni Sudbin Scriabin recital, and the Andrew Litton Rachmaninoff performances (Symphonic Dances, Isle of the Dead, Prince Rostislav) with the Bergen SO. The Sudbin/Scriabin album reveals yet again how multi-channel can be so startling in its realism - even with a recording of a single instrument, while of course the Litton/Rachmaninoff album reveals additional benefits from the extra space too (so much less "strain" compared to pumping out all that sound from just two speakers). Thank you, Robert and George! |
