Was anyone else forced to read "Transactions of the Royal Society" to study Newton's famous debate with Huygens and Hook over his Opticks? Or the Declaration of Independence from an original manuscript?

If so, you know all their "S's" looked like "F's".

I haven't seen an actual HIP score of, say, Pergolesi or Handel; are there Concerti Groffo?, or tempo markings like Foftenuto or Preftiffimo? I mean, historical versimilitude and all.....

OK, I'll go away now.

Wikipedia is your friend for things like this. Here is some music from the late 18th or early 19th centuries where you can see the long s still being used, but not consistently. So it seems Wikipedia is right, it was on the way out by then. Edit: Look at the various styles of non-final s in the word "dispose".
